AIGA Toy Show Update!

I can’t even begin to express how excited I am about this show! 80+ artists showing off their toy goodness! It’s going to be a bad ass event, and I hope to see you there. I’m working on my own set of custom munnys for it.

AIGA is hosting their own custom toy show, Designers in Toyland, at December’s Artwalk.AIGA members and non-members are able to participate, and a portion of the proceeds will go to The Big Fun Box. It’s free, the location is yet to be determined, and it’s sure to be an awesome event!

Call to Artists: Transgender Day of Remembrance Show @ UNF

I’m passing this info along. I will be showing in it, and I hope you will come check it out or submit some work! Transgender Day of Remembrance is such a personal subject for me, and it’s something more people should pay attention to!

On Thursday, November 19, the UNF LGBT Resource Center will be hosting an event for Transgender Day of Remembrance. We will hold a memorial service in Osprey Plaza at 6:30pm and a Celebration of Life and Art Showcase at 7:30pm in the LGBT Resource Center. The showcase will also be available for viewing all day in the LGBT Resource Center.

If you are a transgender / gender variant artist or would like to contribute artwork surrounding these themes, please do! Submissions are due by November 6. They are looking for artwork, songs, poetry and slam poetry, and more.

A Million Little Pictures

I was directed to this Art House Co-op project today and fell in love.
It’s called A Million Little Pictures and they want you to show the world a little part of your life; 24 frames to be exact.

It’s a great little concept. You pay to enter into the exhibition ($18), and they send you a disposable camera to document your life. When you’re done, take it to a one hour photo joint and send off the prints. From the looks of it, they are planning on showing all the photographs they receive. I know I will be participating. Will you?

The Exhibition is scheduled to take place in Atlanta at the Art House Gallery, on September 25th.
In addition, the city with the most participants will also have the exhibition come there for some time.

Folio Weekly Invitational Show

In case you haven’t heard from the various other art blogs in jacksonville or jaxreader.com, the Folio Weekly Invitational Show is happening this Friday.

An opening night reception is held Friday, April 17 from 5-8:30 p.m., and the exhibit will be up from April 15-May 31. Tickets are $5, but include free snackables, beer, wine, and music.

The artists showing are Brian Gray, Casey Matthews, Chad Landenberger, Clay Doran, Daryl Bunn, David Hansford, Edmund Dansart, Matt Abercrombie, Franklin Matthews, James Greene, Jose Cue, Leigh-Ann Sullivan, Christina Foard, Logan Zawacki, Mark Estlund, Matthew Bennet, Sarah Crooks Flaire, and Zac Freeman

Show me the Munny!

I’ve been wanting to put on another Munny show for a few months. I caught ‘The Color of Munny’ show Joey Marchy put on last July at the Thief in the Knight Gallery and it was seriously awesome. I’ve been talking to Joy from Bogda, who offered up the gallery for it, and I’d love to have it at Art Walk in the Old Library Basement for a night.

This is really a post to gauge excitement, interest, and participation.
A Future Call to Artists, if you will. Leave me comments and ideas!
Artist wise, I can’t afford to buy a ton of Munny’s, so it would be buy your own and make it awesome.
(Unless I could get sponsors…. then maybe.)

vacation

I’ve been in the mountains of Colorado for the long holiday weekend, and have been slacking big time on this thing. I’m trying to figure out the best way to add some gallery pages for print and photo art stuff of my own.

Here’s a shot from today’s hike. nothing special, and I haven’t picked up a camera much in the last 6 months, but it’s something.

I’m seriously considering a move out here. It’s paradise, even with the snow. I’ll be back in actionville tomorrow evening (lame!) and I will start blogging about inspirations of mine, artists I’ve come across in my years in art school and since. First up, I really want to right about James Jean. I fell in love with his sketchbook scans, and it only grew from there.

Expect that before the weekend.

Just a quick post while I’m thinking about it…
I spent some time downtown shooting random graffiti and wheat-pasting goodness on Saturday, after the Amendment 2 protest disappointment.
